Christian Author Book Review/Giveaway!!!!!!

I just finished reading this heart-wrenching yet heart-warming wrote by my new friend Stephanie Reed. I met Stephanie through another giveaway I was having that she won. We started talking I discovered she was an author. She enjoys writing non-fiction Christian books about ordinary people who were led by God to do extraordinary things. After our conversation Stephanie generously said she would send me a copy of her latest book, The Light Across the River. This book is the second one in her series about the Rankin family. After getting her book, I set myself down and starting reading. In all honesty I can say this is such fantastic book!!! I love how this book can stand alone as it's own book.....even though it is a series book...... I had no trouble following the story even though I had not read the first book. Although if I had read the first book, I think it just would have enhanced the story line. I loved knowing that what I was reading was based on a REAL family fighting for what was right......LOVED LOVED LOVED IT!!!! I actually enjoying reading it so much that I am definitely buying the first book so that I can read this series aloud to the kids (great history lesson). Stephanie told me she is also working on the third installment of this series (no release date yet.....I will keep you posted).

Here is an excerpt from her bio page that tells a bit more about each book and about her:

When I was in elementary school, my family used to drive from Dayton, Ohio to my grandparents' farm in Kentucky. On each trip, we drove through Ripley, Ohio, where I saw the Reverend John Rankin's home, a former station of the Underground Railroad. My curiosity about the Rankins led me to do extensive research decades later. I learned that the Rankin family fought slavery for forty years. ACROSS THE WIDE RIVER (the 1st book in the series) features eldest son Lowry Rankin and his battle against slavery, as well as his personal struggle against God's call to be a minister.

(A little preview of The Light Across the River: the one I read!)

It's 1837 and the Rankin home continues to be a beacon of freedom along the Underground Railroad. Johnny, the seventh of the thirteen Rankin children, is eager to help his family in their fight for freedom, but his father and his older brother, Lowry, tell him he is too young to keep a secret as important as the Underground Railroad. Johnny knows he should keep his mouth shut, but he cares so much about what his family does that he can't keep quiet.
Unexpectedly, Johnny finds himself in a position to help a woman named Eliza escape to the North. Will he be able to help her to freedom, or will he let the wrong secret slip out at the wrong time? This intense and touching sequel to Across the Wide River offers another glimpse into a dark period of America's past, and profiles the courageous and godly people who helped bring slavery to an end.

When I ask Stephanie, "Where is the best place to buy your books?" She said that, "Christian Book Distributors is the best and cheapest place."
Go here if you would like to purchase both of Stephanie's Book Across The River Series for $15.99
