Bible Study

Well I was thinking we would start in the book of Genesis..since that is what I am currently studying in Sunday School...so this would encourage me to complete my lesson each week, plus get some additional insight from you all in between Sundays.

Before even reading in Genesis my Bible, which is a NIV Study Bible, has sections explaining the book which you are about to read. I always like to read these to get a better understanding and some background information that I might not already know..My favorite sections to read are Background, Author and date of writing, and Theme/Message.

So I thought I would share a few things I read in these sections:

Jews and Christians alike credit Moses for writing Genesis...He actually wrote the first 5 books of the Old Testament.

The theme of Genesis speaks of beginnings- heaven and earth, light and darkness, seas and skies, land and vegetation, sun, moon and stars, sea and air and land animals, and the climax of creating humans. Then the theme moves to sin, redemption, blessings, curses, society, civilization, marriage, family, art and craft, and industry. (With all that who needs TV????)

So read the first 2 chapters of Genesis and we can chat about it tomorrow! Maybe it would be a good realistic goal to read 2 chapters together each day..so if you are studying something else you would still have the time to squeeze in both!
